School Readiness

School Readiness is a free EarlyON program for
preschoolers, which helps them transition to attending school. 

The School Readiness Program gives children an opportunity to experience the structure of school in an informal, gentle way.

The program focuses on helping children develop the skills they will need, such as:

  • early literacy

  • numeracy skills

  • sharing

  • taking turns

  • adjusting to school structured activities

School Transition Timeline Process:

All year around: Bancroft EarlyON, Algonquin Inodewiziwin, Licensed Child Care, Complex Family Support and Intersections programs provide referrals and linkages for basic needs, development supports and mental health services.

All year around: Supporting families with their child’s development using ASQ 2 and 3 questionnaires (Licensed Child Care-Preschool Program screens twice a year- October and February)

January-August: EarlyON Child and Family Centre School Readiness Program- This FREE program for preschoolers, helps them get ready for the transition to attend school. It gives children an opportunity to experience the structure of school in an informal, gentle way. We focus on helping children develop the skills they will need, such as early literacy, numeracy skills, sharing, taking turns, self- regulation and adjusting to school structured activities.

School Readiness Bags

January-August: School Readiness Bags- All children in North Hastings can receive a FREE bag with school supplies, welcome to kindergarten story and a toolkit with Vision, Hearing, Dental and Speech and Language information and screening tools.

February-July: Operating an ACT Learning Centre- OAP Entry to School Program for children with ASD

March and April: North Hastings School Transition Meetings with Learning Support Coordinator/ Learning Support Teachers

May-June: Let’s Get Ready for K – Supporting all the North Hastings Schools with play-based activities during their Kindergarten Orientation nights.

Bus Night

July and August– Kikinàmàgan-Student (School Readiness)- This FREE program for preschoolers, helps them get ready for the transition to attend school. It gives children an opportunity to experience the structure of school in an informal, gentle way. We focus on helping children develop the skills they will need, such as early literacy, numeracy skills, sharing, taking turns, self- regulation and adjusting to school structured activities through an indigenous lens.

August: EarlyON Child and Family Centre will host a Bus Night in partnership with R & L Bus lines.
